The Porsche 993, the last of the air-cooled 911s, to some the end of an era at Porsche. We met up with The Caraba whilst in LA last autumn to check out his stunning Gemballa 993 Turbo. So, what attracted The Caraba to this car?
‘My first sports car was a 993 Targa, I adored it and it still has a special place in my heart, when the time came to add a 993 to my collection I knew it had to be the end of the line 993 Turbo’
What a turbo it is, the car has been breathed on by legendary Porsche tuner Uwe Gemballa, himself. Carbon-fibre doors, bumpers, wings and hood have removed a significant amount of weight. Under the skin suspension has been tweaked to offer a more sporty ride and ensure the car can handle the 500BHP it now has thanks to a Porsche power pack, Gemballa exhaust and ECU upgrade. Subtle exterior upgrades include Gemballa wheels and side skirts.
‘When I bought the car it was Arena Red, it looked great but for me Slate Grey is the iconic air-cooled Porsche 911 colour, so I had the car professionally resprayed and I just love how it looks now’.
Forever a perfectionist, The Caraba tells me that in the future he either wants to revert back to a standard 993 Turbo or turn the car into a full RUF specification car. What do you think he should do?
Either way, this 993 will remain an important slice of automotive history that still gets used as it should.
