Holding on to a memory – BMW 2002tii

Last summer we met up with The Caraba in LA after he finally realised a dream of buying a BMW 2002tii.

My father was always a “car guy”. We would wake up some days and find the most ridiculous cars in our driveway, everything from an Alfa Romeo Spider to the giant Aston Martin Lagonda, and even a pair of identical blue Lamborghini Countachs!

Before his passing, I had a conversation with him about all the cars that he had ever driven of which there were quite a few! When I asked him what his favourite was out of all of them he told me it was the first car he ever bought on his own, and that was the iconic BMW 2002, a car I had never heard of.

When he passed in 2011, I remembered the conversation and set out to find the perfect specimen.

It took me a little over 5 years, but I finally found one. To my amazement, it is truly one of the nicest cars I’ve ever driven.

Although I didn’t have a chance to share the experience with my father while he was still with us, I feel that every time I get into my 2002tii, he’s somehow right there, enjoying it with me.

RIP dad.
